Preparing your skin for Threading

In recent years, facial threading has become one of the most popular methods of hair removal.

However, as with all hair removal treatments, it can cause irritation, so preparation is key. In this blog we will list 7 things you can do to prepare your skin for threading.

Consistency is key

Try to create a threading schedule and stick to it. Not only will this help to keep you organised, but it will also help to keep irradiation at bay. Excessive facial hair will leave your skin more prone to irritation and may prove more painful.

Don’t skip on the H20

Before your appointment, you should try to drink as much water as possible, this will add hydration to your skin, making irritation less likely.

Ice Cubes/ Toothpaste

Sometimes, threading can be uncomfortable. If you are sensitive to pain, you could try washing your face with ice cold water or massaging the area with an ice-cube directly before your appointment. This will help to numb the area, making everything a little less painful.

If you are having your upper lip threaded, there is also a nifty trick you could try with toothpaste. Apply a thin layer above your lip, this will help to cool down the skin and act as a numbing agent. This tip should only ever be used on the upper lip, and never around the sensitive eye area – this will cause extreme irritation.

Avoid Exfoliation

On the day of your treatment, you should try to avoid exfoliating your skin.  Exfoliation leaves the skin more sensitive, meaning you will be much more likely to leave your appointment with redness and irritation.

Remove Make-Up

Before your appointment, remove your make-up and cleanse your face. Your technician will be able to achieve a much smoother, more precise finish when your skin is free from product. It may also prevent you breaking out following the appointment.

Try Talc Powder

For flawless facial hair threading, you could try applying talk powder to smooth the skin and absorb any surface oils that could make the threads slip.

Now keep calm and breath. Once your threading is complete, wash your face with some cold water to help minimise any irritation. You should also avoid touching the area, touching the area will introduce bacteria which may cause further irritation, and even breakouts because your skin will be extremely sensitive.

Next, try applying a light moisturiser to the area that is free from any harsh chemicals and perfumes. Light oils such as rose oil, or aloe vera will help soothe the area too.
